Since the release of patio heaters, there have always been select groups that argued against the use of them. The most common complaint against them is that they are bad for the environment, due to the way they generate the heat. Other complaints are they they waste alot of heat and energy.
The most argued point, that they are damaging to the environment, is true. The way a normal patio heater generates heat is by burning gas. As with most things that burn, one of the products is carbon dioxide, which damages the environment.
The second argument against them, that they waste a huge amount of heat, is also true. Although they are designed with a mushroom shape lid so that heat is reflected to the ground, rather than rising, a large amount of heat is still waste.
However, with all those problems in mind, a heating company called Chillchaser has created a brand new range of patio heaters that are aimed at resolving all of the above issues.
Rather than using propane gas to generate a heat supply, Chillchaser have created a brand new way. They use carbon fibre rods which are able to generate heat. The advantages of using this new form of heat generating is that aboslutly no CO2 is emitted in the process. You might think that this means it has no effect on the environment, however, it doesn’t quite. Because these heaters don’t use gas, they require electricity to power the carbon rods, however, the actual eneregy required is very little so they actually only release 50% of the emissions that a standard patio heater would.
This new way of heating also helps to combat the second complaint, that they waste a large amount of heat. Carbon fibre heating is able to create heat that’s more focused, this means that less heat is wasted in the process.
The final advantage that Chillchaser heaters have over others is that they include an infrared sensor. The sensor is able to detect movement around it and turn the heater off when no movement is detected. This feature means that less heat is wasted if the heater is ever forgotten about.
By the looks of these new patio heaters, Chillchaser have managed to changed patio heaters forever and many eco-warriors won’t be able to moan about these heaters. I guess the only complaint that Chillchaser can’t resolve is that patio heaters shouldn’t be used in the first place.
I would love to see how Chillchaser would improve a standarddehumidifier; maybe build in a weather stations to it, that would solve two problems in one.
