Grab Lucrative Packages With Maximum Convenience - Gas Providers

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

United Kingdom is divided into twelve Local Distribution Zones to supply gas energy. Eight gas distribution networks plays role in managing these LDZs. Every zone is dominated and controlled by few major Gas Providers . North West, London, West Midlands and East of England are taken care by the National Grid. While, Wales and the West is controlled by Wales and West Utilities. Scotia Gas Networks, operating as Scotland Gas Networks and Southern Gas Networks, dominates the Scotland & South of England respectively. North of England is owned by Northern Gas Networks, having operational activities on the contract basis to United Utilities Operations. In 1996, European Union started deregulating UK gas suppliers. The effect of this development was greater competition resulting in suppliers offering cheaper deals. These lucrative packages are often very complex and confusing. Consumers are faced with troublesome task of finding the most beneficial package.

100% Occupancy is typically used for billing water, electric & Domestic hot water and is calculated by taking the total utility bill and subtracting a percentage determined to be common area usage (in general 5% to 25%) which is paid by management. The remaining total is billed to the residents by dividing the remaining billed amount by the total number of residents and multiplying that number by the number of people living in the unit to arrive at that units share.

Paper cost and courier charges are avoided with online transactions. Direct debit monthly payment is paying a fixed amount for the gas every month. The fixed amount is calculated on previous bills of the consumer. Any balance either way is cleared annually at the end of financial year. Over-billing and under-billing are two possibilities that arise with this payment mode. Heavy discounts are attached to this mode of payment. Gas suppliers also charge hidden costs often covered under fine black print behind the contract. Paper billing and non direct payment are two popular examples of such hidden coasts.

The blades of vertical and horizontal design spin at different rates. The vertical wind turbine rotates at a lower velocity compared to the horizontal blades. There is also a much narrower space for the blades to cover in a vertically designed wind turbine. That spells good news for nature lovers because birds do not get caught and sliced in two by the blades of a vertical wind power design. However, horizontal turbine blades are known to be merciless to birds. You will find plenty of feathers around the base of the turbine to prove my point.

Cut Costs Down

Are you fired up to cut down on your utility bills and let the fierce winds light up your home? If the answer is yes, and I suspect that it is, just make the best decision now and visit my site! You will get the upside on wind power design from an expert!

Science - What Is Modern Science? - Ask Sir Isaac Newton And Hercule Poirot!

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Consider this: A pawn on a chessboard becomes self-aware. He “wakes up” and is aware of himself and his surroundings. He finds himself subject to forces he does not understand. He sees pieces of all sorts moving in apparently irregular and unpredictable ways. He finds himself in a fearful world of complete bewilderment. But he tries to start making sense of it. He wastes a lot of time initially because he just does not know how to proceed. But then he stumbles upon a very simple idea - he would make very careful observations and form theories based on the observations, without allowing any arbitrary and unverifiable presuppositions to influence his theories. Sticking to this systematic approach, over time he finds that things are not quite as crazy as they appeared. He finds that the various pieces move according to consistent rules. He formulates a grand theory - “the rules of the game”.

Aging research is also a very big field in cosmetics and many beauty companies spend a lot of money investigate aging in the skin. This includes how the skin ages as well as ways to stop these gaining issues as there are several causes to the aging symptoms found in skin.

The basic scientific approach is really quite simple, just as indicated by the above pawn - namely a combination of careful accumulation of data, with theories based upon such data.

You have to guide your child, encourage his innate curiosity and build on it for numerous 5th grade science fair projects. You will be surprised at how many questions he has that can be answered with simple demonstrations using simple materials and equipment.

Simple Processes

No matter how simple the process adapted, it must still adhere to the scientific method. This way, your child can be involved from the first to the last step of the scientific process that, in turn, will make him better prepared to present the results of his study.

Keep in mind, however, that the scientific process is not a set of rigid rules. You can be more flexible with the process but within limits since objective observations and results must be made. After all, 5th grade science fair projects are supposed to be fun - not rigid - and easy.

For example, in an experiment where the growth of Venus flytraps are studied, the process can be simplified by confining the variables to just a few number, the hypothesis to just one, and the data collection period to just a few days’ time. Thus, only the variable of types of feed is changed, only one hypothesis is made in that the one fed the crickets will grow the fastest because of the protein content, and the period is limited to just 2 weeks instead of 3 weeks.

With 5th grade science fair projects, you can encourage your child to seek more answers to his questions simply because the materials and equipment used are easy to use and the processes adopted are easy to follow

Natural Phenomenon - The Pineapple Express

Friday, September 10th, 2010

People along the western coast of North America are subjected to a wide range of weather meteorological phenomenon ranging from sun, clouds, rain, hail and snow usually in predictable patterns through seasons. However, with global warming, new, more frightening weather events have started to make a presence around the world ranging from torrential rainfalls to drought to hurricanes and tornadoes.

Since highway authorities have a duty to keep footpaths and roads safe, where there has been a failure in this duty an accident victim may have a right to claim compensation for their injuries. No win no fee compensation claims are therefore likely to become an issue for councils as people who have suffered injuries due to treacherous pavements begin to take steps to make a claim for ice slip compensation.

However, claiming following a slip on the ice is more difficult than you might think, and only in certain cases will a claim like this be successful. Follow these safety tips to help you stay vertical during the cold spell.

The Pineapple Express for many has been the source of inconvenience, wet weather over a span of a few days and danger. The sudden burst of heavy and continuous rain has burst dams, caused waterways to overflow and major floods such as the 1952 Central California Flooding, 1964 Pacific Northwest Flood and the 1996 Willamette Valley Flood which caused millions of dollars of damage and the loss of several lives. 2006 was an especially difficult year as areas ranging from Puget Sound along Washington and British Columbia, Canada to Alaska were hard hit with severe flooding and a record rainfall of over 350 millimeters.

This sounds a tale of gloom and doom, but it isn’t, on the whole. All the New Forest ponies I have seen since Christmas have been fed with quantities of hay by their diligent Commoner owners and have been munching their way through many expensive bales of hay each day, in various locations on the New Forest.

The New Forest pony breed is extremely tough and sturdy. They are mild mannered and that is why they make lovely first ponies for children.

How they adapt to a harsh winter of snow:

  • Insulation - their coats are made up of various layers which provide different types of insulation - providing they don’t get too wet and then too cold
  • Using their bottoms to face the storm! - it really is true because I have seen it many times. When a blizzard or hailstorm is coming the ponies will always turn so their behinds get the full blast of the storm. They do this so that the bad weather hits their backsides and travels along their (hopefully) rounded tums and along to their front - but misses their heads and more vulnerable bits! - amazing adaptation or what?
  • Feeding - they are constantly eating: grass, heather, bracken and gorse and anything green they can find. To see them eat gorse is quite unique - have you ever touched gorse? It is like razor blades. They delicately use their tongues to make it flatter and less thorny before giving it a very tentative chew! Ouch.
  • Shelter - gorse has another really great use and that is why you see it, and smell it, with its coconut scent, all over the New Forest. The ponies use it as a field shelter and all huddle in the great clumps away from the penetrating wind and rain and today - snow!

I hope you have enjoyed this insight into living in the New Forest UK National Park during the harsh, snow bound winter. There are lots of photos for you to see on my New Forest travel site - you will get an idea of just how bad this snow was for the New Forest.

I think you will agree that NO WAY is it a winter wonderland for the New Forest ponies and other animals and wildlife who have to survive in it.

I live in the beautiful New Forest - a UK National Park. New forest ponies, donkeys, cows and even pigs run about freely outside my door.

I love living in this unique place and want to share my love with others through my New Forest tales and experiences. All the photos on my site are my own - warts and all. They may not win any prizes but if you see one you know it is real!

The Samoa Tsunami - Danger In The Pacific

Friday, September 10th, 2010

With the help of my colleague, Alex Molina, I recently wrote about the realistic danger that tsunamis posed to the west coast of the United States.

I had vastly underestimated the damage a tsunami can do, and the last two days, after reading about the 8.3 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that followed, I also got to watch the Pacific Ocean’s tsunami warning system in action.

In the case of Samoa, American Samoa, and Tonga, the earthquake’s epicenter and aftershocks were in some cases less than 100 miles from the coastlines. This meant that the early warning system had little time to warn anyone. At this time, over 111 people are reported missing or dead from the three Pacific territories, and that count is expected to be considerably higher once emergency personnel make it to hard to access, outlying areas. In some cases, the waves came as far as a mile inland.

Handling the challenges of flood risks in densely populated areas has been a constant historical factor in human settlements. Most cities are located in the valleys, flood plains and the coasts. Cities through their nature of having large impervious areas produce large run-offs which the drainage network cannot accommodate, and are potentially exposed to floods. It has been acknowledged that the damage potential of floods in the cities is extraordinarily high. Given the high population density in urban areas, even small scale flash floods may cause considerable damage. At the extreme end of the disaster spectrum, urban flash floods can result in disasters that set back development drastically. With climate change and global warming resulting in increased frequency of flood s and their magnitude, continuing urbanization and disproportionate growth, the economic costs of flash floods will soar. Sustainable management of urban flood risks is becoming an increasingly challenging task for city/municipal authorities. (ii)

Flash floods are distinctly characterized by very swift rise and recession, associated with debris flows and landslides, occurring along channels and rivers with small drainage area. Their distinct features paint a stark picture. Flash floods happen suddenly, easily and frequently, are very destructive, and difficult to protect against. Of late, flash floods brought extremely destructive disasters e.g. the recent flash floods in Istanbul, Turkey. In most cases it involves a break in flood protection facility.

Now for the good news

Otherwise, the new system in the Pacific seems to be working well. In all fairness, the tsunami that hit American Samoa was practically a point-blank shot and we did not have the benefit of the buoys to warn us of what was coming. Once the tsunami had time to move out and start hitting buoys, however, we had a clear picture of when the waves would hit Hawaii, Japan, the west coast of the United States, and other Pacific area at risk.

Warnings were made well in advance, and ships were able to seek deeper, safer waters, tsunami watches and warnings went into effect, and quickly out of effect, once the NOAA knew the waves had lost considerable power and size and represented little threat.

Even in far away, Venice Beach, California, lifeguards advised people to get out of the water in advance of the waves, and the tsunami showed up right on time. Apparently there wasn’t much punch left, but I’m sure the state of California is relieved. Still, the unfortunate and low lying town of Crescent City, California was battered by a 1.5 foot peak over normal tides - a size comparable to the largest waves to hit Hawaii after the quake. State officials, knowing the town’s vulnerability to tsunamis, were able to take the right precautions, however, and other than a scare to the local fish, no one was harmed and no property damage was reported.

The flow of the weather determines crop yields, human health, efficiency in distribution, water shortages, and droughts, as well as the production of energy; it does indeed affect almost every human endeavor.

If you plan writing articles about the weather, you need to focus on the long-term trends, the records that are being broken, the cooling of the planet, the increase of ice at the South Pole, annual rainfalls, and the major events such as hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, tornadoes, ice storms, and huge deluge of rain during peak storm season.

You see, people are interested in the weather not only because of the soccer game on the weekend, or the barbecue on a three-day weekend, but also because it affects their commute to work, their jobs, their family, and every aspect of their lives.

If you can do write about these things and if your articles address people’s individual concerns about the weather, you’ll be amazed at how many people will read your articles online. Please consider all this

Real Renewable Energy - Algae Fuel

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Although opinions vary on the future of fossil fuels such as oil, there is little debate that there is a finite supply of oil and that, at some point, mass produced alternative forms of energy will need to become economically viable. One alternative that has gained a lot of momentum is algae fuel.

Algae fuel is exactly what it sounds like… fuel refined from farmed algae. The algae can be grown using fresh water, salt water, and even brackish water. It can also be grown on land that is not suitable for other types of crops so it does not compete for valuable farm land. Growth rates vary based on the type of algae and its environment, but it can grow 20 to 30 times faster than conventional crops such as corn and soybeans with a harvest cycle of as little as 10 days. The harvested algae is then processed into “green crude” oil.

With all fingers pointing everywhere, who exactly is to blame for the disaster that struck Metro Manila and the surrounding provinces in the wake of Ondoy? The answer here is simple: All of us bear equal responsibility for this recent deluge of Metro Manila.

We Are All to Blame for the Flood

Yes, the flooding that happened was the fault of each and every one of us. It was not just the government that was to blame for it; it was us as well. We are all at fault because we have not bothered to take care of our rivers and waterways.

One of the most compelling things about Algae fuel is that it is a drop-in replacement for conventional gasoline. It can be used in conventional automobiles with absolutely no modifications to the engine. There is no need to develop a new distribution system for delivering algae fuel to consumers as the same trucks, gas stations, pumps, holding tanks, etc. can be leveraged. Logistically, algae fuel is as close to the corner gas station as any alternative to oil today. The US alone boasts over 30 companies researching, developing, and even producing algae fuel. One company, Sapphire Energy, launched a cross country tour of vehicles running on algae fuel on Sep 18, 2009.

Moreover, it is important to know whether there will be boat traffic, and if therefore the boom might have to be moved to let ships and boats through. This could be the case in a harbor area.

One example for a floating boom suitable for calm waters is the EconoMax oil spill containment boom. It is lightweight and compact, and has flat panels, so it can even be folded into sections. It is perfect for storing in boats, vehicles or trucks so you can quickly deploy it by hand if necessary.

The EconoMax also has handles and anchor points. And you can even get it with optional accessories, including anchors, repair kits, carry bags, lights, reflectors, towing sets and carry bags. And as its name suggests, it’s very economical since it can be cleaned easily simply by washing them with detergents, and then reused.

There are other floating booms with similar features. Just be sure you select one that meets the EPA’s quality standards
