The Senses of Soul

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Have you ever had a sense that there is more to something than what appears on the surface? As a child, you may have walked by a pond and picked up a pebble. Then, energy grew inside you directing your mind to send signals within you and pick up this rock with your hand. As your mind, body, and spirit united, a coordinated effort took place resulting in a thrust of energy tossing this rock into this pond. The effects of this driving force created a ripple affect on the surface of the pond making its way to the outer edges of the pond. You and I are this same driving force at the core of our being. Everything is energy. We all know its there even though we may not readily see it.

There are five experiences in our life allowing us to touch this energy or our soul. Remember this: “What is the most human to us, often, is the most sacred.” We touch our soul in the following ways:

1. The Sense of Smell. When we breathe, we embrace our world. We draw in various aromas into our inner self. It is our opportunity to take in the world around us, and allow it to fill us with its essence. As we breathe, our soul absorbs the world around it through identification with the earth merging into what cannot be seen. It is the experience of spirit expressing itself in unlimited ways.

2. The Sense of Taste. Taste allows us to tangibly experience different qualities of our world. As a child, we experienced our world through the sense of taste. It was as though our life was meant to be devoured. In a real way, our sense of taste helps us to determine if we like or do not like what is before us i.e. food, experiences, or way of life.

3. The Sense of Touch. Our ability to feel the world awakens our body. Touch sends vibrations throughout our body in the form of tingling sensations. These tingling sensations are expressions of consciousness helping our body understand the direction of spirit in our lives and our place in the world. It is the home of our soul, yet our body cannot fully contain it alone. At the same time , our body is a symbol radiating our unique expression of our soul.

4. The Sense of Sight. The gift of sight enables us to take in the world through visual contact with the world around us. As we draw in our environment, we become part of it and it becomes part of us. Eventually, we deepen this sense of sight creating the ability to see from within. At this point, we are able to see through our eyes, and not, just with them. Here, we see with the eyes of soul. We see with the eyes of unconditional love.

5. The Sense of Hearing. What do we really hear? Sounds are echoes, vibrations interacting with the vibrations of another entity. Behind every sound or word is a tone, a quality of sound, we can connect to within us. The resonance of sound creates signals inside us that we may choose to repel or encompass. As we discern these inner qualities of what appears before us in sound, we are getting in tune with the soul of another person, place, or thing.

Snow Causes A lot Of Accidents

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

A snow day certainly causes a lot more accidents than the average day does and this is obviously down to the fact that the conditions for driving are terrible and people will just not listen and drive into work regardless. How come there seem to be more accidents in the snow than there has been in a long time?

Well one of the big reasons is simply because we have seen some of the worst snow recorded in a very long time indeed but what is worse is the people on the roads and that really is the major point here.

The people were just not listening to the warnings on going slow,  by the way slow doesn’t mean the normal 30mph on the smaller roads, we are talking 5-10 speeds just to make sure that you do not slip on the ice and crash into something. There are so many people out there that are driving all over the place and at high speeds and do not seem bothered if they get someome killed.

If people cut down their speeds I am sure the figure would fall by quite a lot, this isnt the only reason for the accidents.

The second reason why this is happening a lot is simply down to people being stupid. If you do not feel that driving is going to be safe thing to do then the best thing to do is simply stay in or walk. By going out and not feeling comfortable driving you are just as bad as the people that are speeding! It is very hard and expensive to get a hold of bad credit car leasing and if you have crash on top of bad credit it will do you no favours at all.

If you do not feel that comfortable then go out and Luton van lease as you are likely to get across the roads a lot better. At least you will not need to refrigerated van leasing!

Where do we bury our Dead?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

The Bahá'í faith says: "I came forth from God, and return unto Him, detached from all save Him, holding fast to His Name, the Merciful, the Compassionate".

Everybody has to die one day, it is inevitable. Everybody wishes the re-union with the Almighty and succesfully complete the circle of life. A set of rules and procedures are unique to each religion and have their own set of ceremonies. But our ethics and to a certain extent, our religious fear makes us turn an unmindful and a rather nonchalant eye to our burial and crematory practices which have a profound environment impacts. We cannot and should not ignore our duty towards Mother Earth even in death.

There are two ways adopted by people irrespective of faith to pay homeage to their dead: Burial and cremation. Though mummification can be a little spooky, many people are adopting this method because of its extraordinary nature. There are many environment hazards.

Cremation entails the use of a gas resulting in the depletion of a limited fossil fuel and creating air pollution at the same time. Mercury is released from a person’s dental amalgam fillings which too, has an adverse impact on the environment. Still, cremation is hailed as a rather “clean” method because it attempts to maintain the ecological balance. A strengthening step in this direction would be strict regulations on the prescribed level of emissions by cremators and preservation of the cremated remains inside bio-degradable bags. Unlike India, where bodies are creamted on a funeral pyre and the ashes immersed in the holy river Ganga, in the West people are increasingly adopting creamtors for this purpose.

It is often believed that burial is a more-eco-friendly technique of cremation, but this too is debatable. The use of potentially dangerous herbicides, its effect on water supplies and the use of plastic and other materials used for coffin manufacture can pose a serious threat to the environment. Use of biodegradable coffins and caskets are better for the soil in cemetries. Tree plantation should be carried on a large scale in and around the cemetery to reduce carbon footprints and steps should be taken to convert them into wildlife reserves. This will greatly diminish the use of herbicides for weed control as well as cause only a minimal damage to nature and environment.

Although there is no disposition method which does not raise environmental concerns but what is important for us, is to be aware and go for “green burials” and “green cremations.Use of corrosive and toxic chemicals like formaldehyde to replace body fluids can be highly harmful for the environment. As enlightened citizens, it is our duty to ensure that the environment is best protected and all such methods should be made as eco- friendly as possible.
