Reasons To Volunteer In The Worlds Poorest Continent

Have you thought about doing some volunteering in Africa? Maybe volunteering in Kenya takes your fancy. If you volunteer in Africa today you are heading for one of the greatest experiences of your life. Africa is a continent with many countries, most of which need your help. There is over a billion people living on the continent today and over half of them are under the poverty line.

Africa, the poorest continent in the world is also the second most populated behind Asia. The continent comprises of 54 countries with Sudan being the largest. Many regions within Africa are hostile and hard to reach. The Saharan desert is the largest in the world and covers many countries within in. Africa is also home to some of the densest jungle with remote places not yet even visited by humans. There are many reasons the continent is so poor. Most of Africa relies on rainy seasons up to twice a year. If the rains do not fall in the country like we have seen previously in Ethiopia and Kenya a drought is likely to follow. These have dire consequences for the people living in the affected areas and with the government already in debt they find it very difficult to find long term solutions.

Volunteering is obviously not going to be able to change the world but it can help in many other profound ways. Many volunteers go to Africa to teach children English and to work with HIV/AIDS orphans. There are many activities volunteers participate in to help improve the lives of the local communities. Every little bit of volunteering helps no matter how big or how small, everyone can make a difference.

Volunteering doesn’t just beneift the local communties it also has a profound effect on the volunteer themselves. As a volunteer you can see first hand the change you are making and what kind of effect this is having on the local communtiy. The is a great motivation and helps improve self belief and self drive.
